Why a Divorce Coach can help you more than a friend or lawyer, mentally, emotionally and strategically.

Are you feeling burnt out by your divorce? – That will be down to the overwhelm, overthinking, plus the mental and emotional burden being placed upon you.

Have you noticed if you’re in ‘fight’, ‘flight’ or ‘freeze’ mode in your body? That will be the stress response of your nervous system from the daily turmoil, mind games, chaos and fear your ex is creating.

How do you survive this and get through the other side? – I’ll help you. I’ve been supporting women through the divorce process for fifteen years. I can help you feel calm, grounded, less stressed as I help your nervous system relax, which will help you to get clear in your mind with less overwhelm so that you can actually thrive and not just barely survive.

Over the last fifteen years I have worked with women who have been in and out of the High Court in London, and international courtrooms taking on toxic, unemotional and disrespectful men. Having had fairytale weddings, homes custom designed across the world, they end up divorcing men who feel like a complete stranger, to the once familiar man they built a life with. This is because men tend to approach divorce as more of a transaction, and are more ‘business like’, whereas some women get overwhelmed by their emotions that can cloud their ability to ‘play the player’ that’s playing them. This is where my coaching style comes in as a golden asset to aligning your mind into a space of clarity and not overwhelm, because in most cases in life, not just divorce, you can only win when your mind is stronger than your emotions.

Most people would not go into work, or school to see their kids teachers, to a social event, or into a bank meeting in floods of tears, emotional overwhelm or high levels of stress. The ability to ‘put on’ your ‘work head’, or your ‘social mask’ is something we all shift to do when our personal lives are challenged, and in divorce some women simply lose their mind.

I’m not sure why men are so emotionless, and why they go on the attack, tell lies, produce fake documents, have mistresses and cause so much unnecessary stress, to the mother of their kids, and the person they married and built a life with. However, I am certain of how to support women, and I sympathise more with women as a gay man and a coach, because I know how to help them successfully manage the mental and emotional complexities of divorce.

Let’s break it down. – Divorce is one of life’s most challenging experiences.

When significant wealth, businesses, property portfolios, investments, children and complex financial structures are involved, the emotional pressure can become overwhelming. While most people understand the importance of hiring a good solicitor, many underestimate the importance of having the right support for the most important asset in the divorce process: their mind. Having ways to deal with stress, anxiety, fear, panic, overthinking, a lack of sleep and even depression is vital for you to keep your head in the game.

The Real Battle Isn’t Always in the Courtroom

Many women enter divorce carrying years, sometimes decades, of emotional investment in the relationship. They have often been the emotional anchor of the family, holding everything together whilst quietly carrying the weight of the marriage. When the divorce process begins, they are not just dealing with legal paperwork and financial negotiations. They are navigating grief, uncertainty, fear, anger, disappointment and concern for their future. Meanwhile, their former partner may approach the process in a far more detached and transactional manner. For many women, this can feel unsettling and deeply frustrating. They find themselves bringing emotion to a process that often rewards strategy, patience and composure.

This difference can create a dangerous imbalance. When one person is reacting emotionally and the other is thinking strategically, mistakes can happen.

  • How are you currently thinking?
  • Are you clear headed or leading with emotion, stress or even overwhelm?
  • How do you think your ex is currently thinking during the process?

I heard one gentleman years ago in conversation say, ‘I’ve chosen the approach to drag out the legal process (for a rival small business), because the stress, overwhelm, financial burden and lack of financial resources will back them into a corner to take a shit deal’. This is a similar ’emotionally detached and destructive’ approach I have helped women manage who have held strong and received the best outcome they set out to get.

Beyond the games, torture, emotional manipulation and endless lies, the women I have worked with have achieved the very best for themselves and their children for the rest of their lives. This can be achieved with the right level of thinking, looking after your mind, your nervous system and overall wellbeing, which is paramount during such a gruelling time in your life.

Managing Anxiety, Stress and Insomnia During Divorce

One of the first areas I focus on with clients is helping them regain control of their nervous system. Using breathwork, nervous system regulation techniques, mindset coaching and anxiety management strategies, I help women move from survival mode into a state of calm, clarity and control. Breathwork is particularly powerful because it creates an immediate shift in both the body and mind. When you learn how to regulate your breathing, you learn how to regulate your emotions. When you regulate your emotions, you think more clearly. When you think more clearly, you make better decisions. And better decisions often lead to better outcomes.

Standing Strong Against Manipulation

Many high-net-worth divorces involve psychological games. Some are subtle, others are obvious. The women I work with learn how to recognise these patterns without becoming emotionally consumed by them. They learn how to remain grounded when others are trying to unsettle them. They learn how to establish healthy boundaries. They learn how to respond rather than react. Most importantly, they stop giving their emotional power away. Because once you understand the game, you no longer become controlled by it.

The Goal Is Not Just a Good Divorce

Most people focus solely on getting through the divorce. I believe the goal should be much bigger than that. The goal is to emerge stronger than when you entered it. The goal is to build emotional resilience that serves you long after the legal process has finished. The goal is to develop a mindset that protects your peace, your health and your future. The goal is to become the strongest version of yourself. Because when the lawyers step away and the paperwork is complete, you still have to live with yourself every day.
